A form to apply for annexation is provided on the main page
(see “Electronic Forms”). Generally, the City of Jefferson follows the “100 percent” method of annexation, which requires an application by the
property owner. Land to be annexed must be contiguous to the existing city limits. There
is currently no charge to file for annexation. However, if annexed the property must be rezoned to a classification
in the City, and that involves a change of zoning from that assigned by Jackson County.
Jefferson requires zoning applicants
to make application for rezoning and pay the processing fee. For that reason, annexation applications are
filed with the Planning and Development Department, which assists prospective property owners with annexation requests.
