Annexation

A form to apply for annexation is provided in ("Forms and Permits under the business tab”). Generally, the city of Jefferson follows the “100 percent” method of annexation, which requires an application by the property owner.  Land to be annexed must be contiguous to the existing city limits.  The city has adopted policies for annexation in the comprehensive plan. There is currently a charge to file for annexation (see fee schedule).  The annexed property must also be rezoned to a classification in the city and Jefferson requires zoning applicants to complete an application for rezoning and pay the processing fee.  For that reason, annexation applications are filed with the Planning and Development Department, which assists prospective property owners with annexation requests.
