Jefferson Tree Council & Tree Sales

Tree Council

In 2007, the Jefferson Tree Council was established as the official tree board for the City of Jefferson and is an integral part of the Jefferson Land Use Management Code and is committed to protecting the public trees in Jefferson. The council holds quarterly meetings on the second Wednesday of January, April, July, and October, with additional meetings scheduled as needed.

One of the key initiatives of the Jefferson Tree Council is the Jefferson Foliage Fest. This event is an annual outdoor festival bringing music and educating the community on the importance of trees.  The Foliage Fest takes place at McKinney Hill, located within City Park. McKinney Hill is a passive park that offers a tranquil environment for activities such as bird watching and "hammocking".

To promote tree planting within the city, the Tree Council organizes Spring and Fall Tree Sales. These sales provide an opportunity for residents to purchase trees, and those who participate may also benefit from Treebates. Treebates is an incentive program designed to encourage people to purchase trees from the Tree Sales and plant them on their own property and in turn will receive a Treebate, or rebate, on their city utility bill.

The Tree Council remains dedicated to educating the public about the numerous benefits of a healthy, diverse, and expansive tree canopy. Their efforts include ongoing tree planting and maintenance initiatives on public property. This commitment ensures the well-being of present and future generations in Jefferson by preserving and expanding the city's tree population.
