Economic Development
The economies of Jackson County and the City of Jefferson are experiencing growth as the Atlanta market expands northeast up the I-85 corridor. The primary contact for Economic Development for Jackson County is Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber can be reached at 706-387-0300. The community has been successful in attracting many manufacturing and distribution companies to the Jefferson area. In the past five years, several new industrial parks have been developed both inside the city limits as well as adjacent to the city. Developers maintain an active available buildings program and many will build-to-suit on sites within their industrial parks. An active economic development roads project in the county has also opened up several commercial corridors which have begun attracting quality commercial shopping centers as well as hotels and retail centers. The Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Jefferson are working hard on beautification and redevelopment of the downtown area.
The Central Jackson Industrial Park serves the needs of smaller acreage businesses and two commercial corridors along the 129 Bypass and Concord Road service the needs of our growing commercial and retail businesses.
Opportunity Zone
The City of Jefferson has designated several areas within the city limits as redevelopment areas. The Department of Community affairs has approved these areas as an Opportunity Zone. If you choose to locate a new business or start-up within a designated Opportunity Zone and plan to hire at least two employees, then you can claim tax credits to assist with your new business location or start-up.
